Our Sustainability Journey

We are committed to being part of the solution in the fight against climate change. We are working to reduce our environmental impact through our energy efficiency, waste management and materials selection. The Dilly is Green Key certified meaning we have been audited and meet the criteria for being a sustainable business.

Green Key is an international eco-label for tourism facilities. Since 1994, Green Key has been a leading standard of excellence in environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry. The Green Key programme is run by the Foundation for Environmental Education. mission : net zero

At The Dilly we have partnered with mission : net zero to support us on our sustainability journey. mission : net zero is a sustainability consultant working with us to reduce our impact on the environment through internationally recognised eco-label certification, Green Key. Recycling

As per national legislation, we recycle paper/cardboard, plastic bottles, food waste, batteries, and glass as well as light bulbs, paint cans and oil. Our bathroom amenities are produced in recyclable aluminium tubes to avoid the use of single-use plastics. Recycle bins are present in all guest bedrooms and throughout all back-of-house offices. We strive to purchase restaurant items that are in glass or recyclable containers to avoid the use of single-use plastics wherever we can.

Food and Beverage

All of our food and beverage outlets use locally-sourced and organic produce wherever possible. We strive to use fair-trade suppliers and ecolabelled suppliers as much as we can. We value our local community and supporting local businesses, so we aim to work with London suppliers to reduce our carbon emissions in food travel. Please see below a list of our current local suppliers. Square Root, Camden Hells, Portobello Pilsner, Toast Series (a non-profit company producing beer from leftover bread/toast to fight against food waste), Belu water throughout the hotel (a non-profit supporting water aid charity), many house brands for spirits from local distilleries (East London Liquor Company, Bimber, Beefeater & Whitley Neill), House wine range is English (Chapel Down, London Cru, Balfour), and London tea brand, The Tea Makers of London (recyclable sachets). For food, we use The Menu Partners suppliers, with a variety of eco-friendly or fair-trade food: Meat – IMS Smith Fields (organic), Fish – Sea Food Holdings (MSC), Fruit – Covent Garden Market, Veg – Covent Garden Market, Bread – Bread Factory London. We do not buy products derived from threatened or protected species. We have plant-based options available on our menus.

Charitable Initiatives

As an Axiom Hospitality hotel we have proudly partnered with it’s never you, a charity which supports the parents of children with cancer. Guests are given the option to make a small donation when checking out or paying in one of our food and beverage outlets. Every penny that is donated goes to charity. 90% to it’s never you (registered charity number 1198257) and 10% to Pennies (registered charity number 1122489).

The Dilly also supports local charities including FEAST at St. James’s Church where employees volunteer monthly to serve food to people experiencing homelessness in the community. Other charity partners include STEP, Doorstep Library, Edge, Hospitality Action and Global Make Some Noise.
